Hi,

I've been looking all over for an answer to this question and was hoping someone visiting this site could help.
I recently set up a new gaming pc, and this included a 120gb ssd and a 1tb hdd. I've installed windows 8.1 on the ssd with the intention of using the hdd for most of my storage including my games.
The question, simply put is, is there an issue with games not running from the non os drive. I've found that some do and some don't. Far cry 3, assassin's creed 4 and dead rising 3 all don't work no matter what combination of where I place steam/uplay compared to where I place the game files. The only thing that works is when the game file is on the c drive.
This is not what I wanted to do as my ssd hasn't got a lot of room left and I also didn't want to keep writing and re writing on it constantly.
Has anybody else encountered this issue and is there a "fix". At the moment I'm thinking of binning off the ssd and just using the hdd for my os and everything else.
Thanks.

Solution
Ok, so I fixed the problem.
The hdd I was running was a western digital caviar green, and after doing the research I should've done before I bought it I found that these are not the best for speed/gaming. I've now replaced this with a caviar black and lo n behold everything works fine. I don't know why this is, I'm just glad it's fixed.

There should be absolutely nothing wrong with that. In my opinion the os should be on a separate drive at all times. What is the problem exactly? The game won't start or crashes during loading?

All 3 games come up with the same message. They crash immediately and state that "game had stopped working".
But as soon as I put them on the c drive they work fine. So annoying. Reading up online, it does seem like an issue that many others are experiencing.

That's the first that I've heard of this problem. I've seen the two drive system for Steam recommended many times on this forum and I've never seen anyone come back and complain that it would not work. The Steam website has instructions for putting the Steam client on one drive and the Games library on another.

A google search for the issue has come up with loads of people with this issue. I've followed the instructions on steam and set up another folder on my D drive.
When I make a new folder on my D drive does it matter what I name it? I just made one called steam.

Hi yoggi,

Already tried that as well. Literally the only way to get those games to work (and probably up and coming games to) is to have them live on my c drive. I tried the steam mover program and that didn't change anything. Plus 2 of the 3 games are on uplay anyway. The whole idea of steam mover/symlink annoys me due to fact I shouldn't have to do it in the first place.
