okay I have been using this Seagate disc for 5 months, never had a problem and stored about 500gb of precious data, but suddenly one day as I insert my disc into the computer it becomes unreadable, after 10mins it appears as a local disc, slows my computer, and also ask to be formatted when I click on it, I have seen several questions similar to mine, mostly ask to recover data and reformat disc :( but is there anyway I can repair this disc without going through lengths to recover it? I can't afford to get another disc to reformat my files there, also if there is any suggestions for my situation, ill be on all ears and is very grateful to read your helpful responses! :)

Solution
1) Can't guarantee anything, but if it's only a software issue (not a hardware failure in the drive) and you haven't written any data beyond formatting, there's a good chance you'll get it back.
2) If you didn't write anything, then probably. Again, if only software not hardware.
3) New disk needed (or somewhere large enough on an existing disk), but does not need to be the same size or model. You just need enough space not on the disk you're recovering.
4) Couldn't say.

You'll need to format it whatever happens if you want to use it again. However, I generally wouldn't recommend using a drive that's had trouble previously. If it's hardware trouble, you probably won't be able to get it to work.

I would suggest recovering your data (if...

Okay thanks for the suggestion! But i got a few questions on data recovery

1) Does it recover every files that you lost in the formatting?
2) If I allow the hard disk to sit un-formatted for a month, can the files still be recovered?
3) Also does data recovery meant that i have to purchase a new disc of the same size and recover my files to that new disk?
4) Which site doesn't require online purchase of data recovery software?

Lastly i just want to know if i can still repair my hard disk and not going through the lengths of formatting and data recovering as i'm not very tech savvy. Thank you so much

I would suggest recovering your data (if possible), getting good backups, and then returning it under warranty.
