Between 270x and 280, which would perform better in crossfire? Currently working with a gtx 295, so i expect to see a performance boost from either single card. I'll just add a second later when i can afford it

More about : amd crossfire

Look at the new R9 285, priced similar to the 280.

The r9 280 is better than the 270x easily, and about the same as a r9 285. The r9 285 has lower memory bandwidth than the r9 280 though RobCrezz, and in most places the r9 280 is lower priced. It's also readily available everywhere in all model types. My vote goes for an r9 280 for the wider bus and lower price.

Additionally, does anyonw know if the 280 is compatible with the rest of my build(sigged) for the next week or so until i can afford the rest of my upgrades?

Even though it is Core 2 Quad, but still I would recommend you to stick with one GPU here.

Yeah you will be fine, but you will be bottlenecked by your CPU until you get your upgrades.

PS: If you plan to go above 1080p, then get 2 x r9 280 over 2 x 285. The wider memory bus, and extra gb of ram will help a lot at higher resolutions with higher levels of anti-alising.

I'll have no issue with my p35 msi mobo til i get the new one? Or ddr2 ram? If so awesome, i'll purchase when i get home from work instead of waiting a week

Any proof of the 280 performing better in crossfire? In most benchmarks the 285 performs better in the Toms test

More benchmarks will come on R9 285. Reliable scores can be found at TechPowerUp because they use the same setup for all graphics cards testing.

Yes, but do read the conclusion and value as well.

An individual r9 285 may be faster, but that is until it runs out of memory. For a crossfire configuration, the extra gigabyte of ram should help a lot. I would suspect the 2 x r9 280 to beat 2 x r9 285 easily in 4k, or UHD. That is if you want the anti-alising turned up anyway.

Quote for Toms review of the r9 285. "Cons: Lower raw memory bandwidth than Radeon R9 280 that may result in slightly lower performance in some cases. 2 GB of onboard RAM instead of 3 GB. Does not notably increase performance over Radeon R9 280 on average."

Quote from Guru3d review: "When you look at the Radeon R9-285 overall, performance, Eyefinity features, PCIe gen 3 compatibility and all other stuff then we can only conclude that we like these cards belong in the mainstream to high-end (and certainly not enthusiast) graphics card arena. We dislike the fact that AMD dropped from 3GB towards 2 GB. Especially when you market the product as a 2560x1440 graphics card then the 2 GB is just too marginal with the latest games in that resolution. Overall we think the R9 285 will be a very nice Full HD gaming card, WHQD is possible but you'll find yourself un-ticking graphics quality options pretty fast to gain on framerate performance and to lower graphics memory utilization."

The original poster is looking to crossfire and 2gb of ram may leave him desiring more in future games is all I'm tring to say. Memory does not double in xfire so the 3gb card would be best IMO.

I would suggest you to stick with single card for your system to give you good game play, Grab this one from Sapphire and it would be plenty for time to come plus it has best cooling for the card:

For that you really need to check with NewEgg. NewEgg, Amazon have participated in these programs for sure. What is current status, at-least not know to me.
