Hi, i need to upgrade my graphics card which is a nvidia gtx 260, my motherboard is a gigabyte GA P55-UD3. I'm not tech savy but I understand my motherboard is somewhat outdated and finding a modern graphics card may be difficult due to my motherboard having a 2.0 card bus (I think). I'd love to get more out of this pc as the i7 chip is still good. I'm hoping i can get another gtx card to sate my gaming needs...any recommendations?

Oh and i have a 450 watt power supply

Thanks in advance guys :)

The good news is a PCI-E x16 2.0 slot will happily support all modern gaming GPUs with no slowdown, so don't worry about compatibility issues there.

If you're running an i7-series chip then you need not worry about bottlenecks there either. Assuming you have 6GB of RAM or more then there won't be any bottlenecks on that front either.

The only possible bottleneckwill be the wattage of your PSU. Here's a guide as to what GPUs require what Power Supplies.

Upgrading a PSU is as simple as unscrewing the current one (and detaching all connectors) then installing the new one and reattaching all the connectors.

As such you can select from any Graphics Card out there at the moment.

Yeh, our old Lynnfield/Nehalem CPUs are ageing well, aren't they? :)
To get the best out of an upgrade you'll NEED to overclock the i7 a bit, my i5 750/HD7950 slows down noticeably if I run at stock 2.6GHz speed but peps up nicely at 3.4GHz.
With no OC: R9 270X or GTX760.
With OC R9 280X or GTX770.
I'll strongly suggest you up the PSU to 550Watts whatever you choose, 450Watts is pushing it for the non OC suggestions and no where near enough for the OC+upgrade.
