As I read it in the MB manual, populating ANY PCIE slot (other than the PCIE x1 slots) along with the PCIE x16 reduces the PCIE x16 to x8. I need to use two x1 slots for auxiliary cards (and there are two PCIE x1 slots on the MB) but my GPU (currently a GTX 660) is two slots wide and blocks access to one of them.
My questions are:
1) How much of a game playing performance hit will I experience if I populate one of the PCIE x4 or x8 slots with a PCIE x1 card?
2) Any suggestions on how to get around my problem? Although I have a couple of legacy PCI slots available, I don't seem to be able to find PCI to SATA 3 adapters out there.
TIA for your help,
Larry
