Constant rebooting/ power cycling issue- a few more questions.

Hello everyone,

I’m afraid I need advice on a topic partly discussed many times on here already but hasn’t provided me with a solution yet. It seems as though the rebooting cycle is common issue with this motherboard, however there are also similar reports of it being a RAM problem or a PSU problem so I wanted to clarify a few things before I burned a load of money on a new motherboard/ CPU.

Turning the computer on causes the fans etc to spin up and lights to go on for about a second and then it turns off. A few seconds later it does the same thing and repeats itself over and over again indefinitely (screen stays blank throughout). No beeping but I don’t think the motherboard has an onboard speaker. Video here. I have had the PC for almost 5 years and haven’t changed or updated anything in it recently. Never had any hardware problems at all before and don’t overclock. It started on hitting the power button to wake up from sleep a few days ago and won’t boot out of this cycle at all.

I have tried (as well as the things in this guide):
• Resetting the CMOS in several ways (battery out for hours/ shorting the CMOS reset jumpers, trying all the tricks described here
• Ruling out a dodgy power switch/ connection by starting the motherboard on its own (connecting the POWER_SW connectors together) which booted into the same cycle.
• Trying each individual stick of RAM in every slot (white and blue)
• Disconnecting literally everything including all USB connections (apart from lifting off the CPU/ heatsink) and reconnecting them in all configurations.

The paperclip trick to test the PSU works fine- it starts up and runs without turning off.

The only other relevant point which I don’t fully understand is that when the 8 pin 12V CPU power connector and the 2x12 pin ATX main power connector are both connected to the PSU, the problem continues (this might help if not clear). If I try to boot with the 8 pin CPU cable disconnected but the ATX main power connected, the lights/ fans start up (and stay on) but nothing else happens. When trying it with the graphics card connected, it still starts and stays on in the same way but the screens stay completely blank. Could this be a CPU issue then?

I guess my questions are:
1. Is the paperclip trick a safe bet to assume the PSU is ok? Or do I need to get a testing machine thing?
2. Is it safe to assume that the RAM is ok as none the three sticks worked (presumably highly unlikely that all three sticks go at the same time?)
3. Could this be a CPU issue given the fact it seemed to at least ‘start’ when the CPU power was disconnected?

If anyone has any suggestions I’d very much appreciate it. Unfortunately I don’t have an old spare computer/ other parts I can substitute in to test individual components.

Thanks for the help and apologies if this has been answered in a different thread and I’ve missed it/ this is posted in the wrong section.

Solution
Hello there.
I had the same issue with an Asus sabertooth z77 and i send it back for an RMA, i tried everything new psu, unplugging everything from the motherboard and trying step to step plug in and nothing worked.
As i worked my issue about 1-2 weeks with some technicians all of them suggested that i should RMA the motherboard since 99% of the problems start from there and they were right.
It is highly unlikeable for your 3 sticks of ram or the cpu (if you treated the cpu well) to go bad and cause you this problem.
Good luck with it, i hope you don't have to spend a lot for a new CPU/MOBO combo.
-Cheers
