Hey everyone, I'm a bit new here and in regards to computers so I apologize for any stupid questions or lack of intelligence on computer matters, but I was wondering if any of you could give me some insight on PCIe SSD's. I'm having some trouble picking the right one for my future computer build because I understand while PCIe lanes offer faster speeds than SATA, there are a lot of drawbacks in terms of compatibility and flexibility with different system builds. Considering this it just seems better and more sensible to go with two SATA SSD's in RAID0.

Here is my proposed build:
Motherboard: ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition
CPU: Intel Core i7-4930K
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8x8GB DDR3-1866
GPU: x3 SLI ASUS GeForce GTX 780 6GB STRIX
OS: Windows 8.1

I don't know if you need any other information but feel free to let me know.

So I'm going to have this extra PCIe slot that I want to fill out after the x3 SLI GPUs and I really wanted to try out a PCIe SSD. I have a budget of around $500.00 and was hoping for a storage capacity of around 240GB but both the money and storage capacity can be negotiated if I find a good option. (If there is a really good option thats well over my price budget I might consider that too, so don't leave any options out. ... I would just have to save up some money haha) ... But with Windows 9 on the horizon (I'm not quite sure if operating systems even have that big of an impact on the operability of PCIe SSDs) and the fact that two SATA SSD's in RAID0 might provide a much better cost effective solution with a comparable performance and much greater flexibility, I'm debating on going the PCIe SSD route at all.

I don't know if everybody has a favorite manufacturer of computer components, but I tend to always lean towards ASUS products due to my history with them. ... I checked out their 240GB ROG RAIDR PCIe SSD and I was thoroughly impressed by its compatibility but I was pretty disappointed in terms of its performance. Its a shame too because its so damn beautiful and would look good with all of my other ASUS components, but you catch my drift, haha. ... Should I wait a little for more PCIe SSD's to come out in hopes that they will have better options? Are they any PCIe SSDs that I have been overlooking that would actually be great with my system? If there aren't any good options available whats your thoughts on SATA SSDs in regards to options and RAID configurations? If a PCIe SSD is a terrible option, are there any other good ideas of ways to fill out my last PCIe slot considering my motherboard? ... Anyways, any input or advice you guys could provide me would be beyond appreciated, and my apologies for my ignorance on the matter. :)

Oh geeze, I didn't realize ASUS finally released a X99 motherboard! I guess I havent been keeping up with the news, haha. ... Now I was thinking about waiting around for the new generation of products to come out but I'm always nervous to jump onto things right away.Without a solid base of reviews on a product I hesitate to spend so much money. Especially considering the premium on new products (although I was surprised that the price of the rampage 4 and 5 are pretty close). I also worry that manufacturers might not have all the kinks of this new architecture worked out and I was therefore going to wait down the line for further iterations of X99 motherboards, or just wait until all of my proposed components go down in price. I'm also not that impressed by DDR4 over DDR3, and in regards to processors, I feel like I might as well just wait for an 8-core intel processor to become commercially available for around $500.00 if we are talking in terms of future proofing (as cool as the 8-core intel processor looks i cant justify spending $1000.00 on something that I won't even be able to utilize considering I mostly game and won't be using too many multi-threaded applications where I could really use the extra cores). ... As of now though I think I'll wait a little bit more because I'm hoping there is a price drop right around the corner, but we'll see.

So do you think a PCIe SSD is a bad idea then? Do you have any other ideas for an options to fill out my last PCIe slot considering my motherboard choice?
