run windows xp off a USB?

Hey, my laptop HDD broke recently :(  and its gonna take like a week before I can get it repaired, someone told me you can run windows xp off a USB and use it as a HDD I only have a 8gb USB but windows xp is only small is it possible to do that? And how?

no it cant beacuse the windows xp installation menu does not detect the flash storages.. it only detect lettered drives. hope i helped

your really hoping arent you .. you cant install windows on a usb stick.. if it was a external hdd then you would be good.. if you reall want to use your computer in the mean time you could get a copy of linux and run it off the usb or a cd ..

External hdd makes no difference, it's still recognized as usb. Flash drives are lettered just like hdds. Don't bother with running windows on usb, but like he said, linux can do it.
