I am thinking of upgrading my GPU to a r9 280. Will a 500w PSU be able to handle it?

you defenately need a psu upgrade. that is a unit that should be avoided really!

what budget do you have?

yes, even on the uk market for about 40-50 pounds the XFX 550w is also you best option!

An XFX or Seasonic power supply would do you great.

I could really use something around the 25 pound mark, although the EVGA sounds like a good deal.

I blame myself for not buying a better PSU to start with.

Guess I''ll have to stick with the r9 280 instead of the 280x, saving about £25 ($40) for a new psu.

Any good (cheaper) PSUs? Can probably stretch to 30 pounds, but I am stuck for cash.

What would you guys think of this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/CiT-600W-Power-Supply-Rails/dp/...

psu is a very crucial component. CIT isnt a good one. there arent decent units at such price. this is the cheapest decent unit for your system.

Price breakdown by merchant: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/TPmDnQ/by_merchant/
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (£35.06 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £35.06
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

however i would defenately recommend the XFX originally suggested. it will be money well spent!

The EVGA is only 500w, is this going to cut it?

yes it will run it but with just 10 pounds more you get the XFX which will provide more headroom for overclocking and better longevity. dont skimp on psu!

Suppose I better knuckle up and pay up. Thanks for the help, and I'll continue to research the two recommendations.
