Since I recently upgraded to 100mbps - I now notice that after waking my machine from sleep in the morning it is maxing out at 54mbps - even though the connections still shows 300Mbps to the router.. Really odd, I have unchecked power savings - am on the latest driver for the Intel 6235 and have tried the last 3 drivers.. An uninstall of the driver and quick install brings the speeds back up.. any ideas? Thanks

You might want to go into device manager and under the View menu click show hidden devices. It's possible that the drivers for your old Ethernet adapter are conflicting with your new device. If there are greyed out devices inside the Network adapter category I would right click them and select "uninstall" and make sure to check the box next to uninstall device driver during the removal.

Darkbreeze - thank you for the idea - I have checked device manager and everything for the Ethernet connection is current and up to date - anything greyed out does not seem to remove itself when I uninstall --- most do not have the option to delete files/drivers -- For sure worth a look, I have heard before of Ethernet connections effecting Wifi - thanks for your suggestion..

I've never, EVER, heard of a device not having the uninstall or delete option available in device manager when right clicking on the device. You may try this for any listed Wi-Fi adapters as well. It may be worth the attempt to compare your current BIOS image file version against the most recent available at the OEM website for your motherboard. If yours is older, I'd recommend updating as well as checking to see if there are any updated drivers for your Wi-Fi adapter.

Uninstall is available for everything in there - only some have the check box to delete the driver files - I have seen this on the other Win OS as well... BIOS is up to date and I have the latest Intel Driver (less than a month old) and have tried the 3 prior Intel drivers... Thanks for the help..

Sometimes, just installing the updated driver is not enough. Neither is using normal uninstall routines. Occasionally you have to uninstall any related applications from the Programs and features or Add Remove programs applet, remove the device and driver from device manager and then manually delete any remaining folders related to the device or its installation from existing locations using windows explorer. Many times it's also necessary to manually go into the registry editor and delete all strings related to the device and then reinstall the current driver. If you've done ALL of that then perhaps it's a router setting or an advanced setting for the adapter. It's somewhat unusual for an Intel adapter to cause troubles in Windows 8.1 unless it's an older adapter. Did you upgrade just the card or did you upgrade the router and/or cable modem as well? If those devices are not gigabit devices and are not docsis 3.0 compatible they could be part or all of the problem. It's also possible that the router isn't IPv6 compatible while your new card is. If you can check the router to see if it is, and if it isn't, disabling IPv6 in network properties might help.

The router is the the same - the Modem was updated to Docsis 3.0 to get the 100mbps - the intel 6235 is the same - It could have been doing this forever since I only had 30mbps down before the upgrade - it would not have been noticed on a speed test since I was never passing the 54mbps it appears to be allowing after sleep.. edit -- It really is odd and like I mentioned could have been going on a long time - the only thing making me think the machine - either OS or driver itself - is after seeing the 54mbps max speedtest - a simple two second uninstall reinstall - pushes the speed back up to the 100mbps.. hope that makes sense...

Let's try making a few adjustments. Go into device manager and open the device to the advanced settings tab in its properties. Take a screen shot of the window and post it here so I can see exactly what settings are available on this adapter. Every adapter has different crap in there.

Thanks for searching darkbreeze - I am using WPA2 with AES so this should not be an issue I believe.. The router security/encryption should not change because my laptop goes to sleep - Unless I am missing something in the article. My plan is to throw a new copy of Win8.1 on a new SSD from scratch - checking to see if there is something in this OEM 8 to 8.1 upgrade making a hidden issue.. I had done a lot of search/research on this prior to posting and was hoping someone had encountered the exact same problem.. Thanks again
