Hi, I have this problem where I cannot get smooth performance in most games unless I overclock my CPU and GPU. It seems to help the most if I OC the CPU. But when I overclock them they always make the PC crash after a certain amount of time.

The lowest I overclocked the CPU is 42 and the GPU was around +70 base clock, the temps were pretty normal with around 65-70 on GPU and 70-80 on CPU. I don't have either overclocked at the moment and the main problem I was hoping to get help on is that I can't run many games smoothly without oc'ing. What I mean by not smooth is I get these small half second freezes every couple seconds.

I have a GTX 780 SC ACX, Intel Core i5 4670K with Hyper 212 Evo cooler, Corsair CX600M PSU, 8GB ram, a Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H, 3 case fans and Windows 7 64 bit.

More about : bad performance games

what? +70 base clock? thats the wrong way to overclock with such hardware! you are lucky you havent fried anything yet.
multiplier x base clock (100) = ghz. overclock by increasing only multiplier and cpu core voltage when needed. thats why you have paid the extra money for an unlocked voltage cpu and a full featured mobo.! reset bios to default and ensure through gpuz that gpu usage is maxed out constantly. ensure drivers are the latests. also there is a chance of a problematic psu as your cx is just a mediocre one at best.

When I said +70 core clock that meant on the GPU not the CPU.

ok yeah correct. as i have edited most probably a psu issue then! these temps look good, within safe limits. try furmark and test stability!

I seem to have found out the issue today. I think it is a CPU bottleneck because the games I notice it on a lot is Splinter Cell Blacklist and Call of Juarez Gunslinger and these games have weird CPU usage behavior, I have researched these games and I have seen that other people also have this problem.

even 780/ti has its limits. on latest games maxed out, dealing with FPS droping/ stuttering will be inevitable. keep antialiasing at minimum levels and you will be fine. also go easy on overclocking with small steps at a time and stress test to ensure stability. however cx isnt that suitable for very stressful operations.

I wasn't talking about my GPU I was talking about CPU. I keep AA off on all games.

there isnt a chance of bottleneck with your cpu.a software issue most probably. also are you running the latest versions of the games?maybe there known issues that can be resolved.

I happen to have the same mobo/cpu as you. XD

Your rig should be absolutely raping those games.

There is an issue somewhere holding you back.

I will try to see if it is the GPU or RAM then. Good to see that someone else has the same cpu and motherboard without this problem so I can know that it isn't those!
