I just got an i7 4790k and a GTX 780 6gb.. but for some reason I'm getting like 18fps in games.
I assume this is because the PC is using the "Intel HD Graphicas 4600" as my main display hardware.

How do I get my GTX 780 to work instead of the Intel graphics?

1. Plug the monitor into the 780 GFX card instead of the MoBo, connect all necessary cables

2. Install nVidia Drivers.

3. You can disable the on board GFX if you so choose in BIOS.

Did you connect PCI cables from PSU to your Gtx 780?

If you already connected cables in post above :) , go to Bios and disable -onboard gpu-(Or something like that, depends which motherboard you have), you don't need it anyway.

Oh, is your monitor cable plugged to GTX 780, or motherboard?
You probably have few DVI/VGA/HDMI ports, but check is it connected to gtx 780's port

Yeah I just plugged the dvi cable into the GTX 780,
but for some reason it doesn't give me any notification of a BIOS when I boot up PC,on my old PC a screen would show up and I'd hit F12 to go into the settings, but with this new comp..it's just a black screen until the windows logo appears.

I have a Gigabyte Z97-HD3

Can you try another DVI port (upper one, if you have 2 on gtx 780)? Also, are you using DVI-VGA connector?

I'm using just a DVI cable, when I plug it into the mobo it shows an even longer black screen and then the display appears when the window welcome screens shows.

I'll try HDMI.

My ASUS Z97-A disabled the onboard automatically when I plugged a dedicated graphics card into it. Many do.

It takes longer whenever you switch cause it looks for the "old one" and then when not finding, it searches for new one.

So far we figured out that you did item nos. 1 and 3 from my original\ post .... how about no. 2 ?

Download and check w/ GPU-Z

Others I'd get are HWiNFO64, Furmark and Afterburner

You don't need to see the splash screen to get into the bios, its just a formality, mash F2/del/F12/etc whatever button it is for your board then when the display comes on your should be in the bios screen.
