My brother told me today that his wife decided to vacuum his desktop computer, right after she was done she turned on the computer, it turned on but it does not display anything and the screen just goes to "Sleep Mode". There is no GPU so that can't be faulty, I tried an HDMI cable but it still does the same thing... Help?

Also, the power button usually lit up but now it doesn't.

there is a chance that when vacuuming you shorted the motherboard out.

How would that work though? I thought you needed to touch it with either static or a piece of metal while there is still some power in it...

You can still short any component even when the power was off and you may have not felt it. Always before doing work in your pc you at least need to ground yourself

Is there any way I can check if that is the problem?

i do no think there is any way to check. There is a chance you knocked a plug or something like the 24 pin to your motherboard or your cable off your psu is loose

Checked everything, it's all plugged in the way it's supposed to.

Ps, it wasn't me that vacuumed it, like I said it was my brothers wife that did that.

Well now you have someone to blame for potentially killing your computer... I dont have much more advice for you since i assume if it was old enough to be cleaning dust out of it it probably no longer has a warranty. Who is it made by?

well before i suggest just calling it dead, take it to your local tech store and have them try and run diagnostics on it for $30 or whatever. From there if they find the defective part, replace it, if they don't it may be time to replace the computer
