My laptop has an NVidia GTX 765m which is 3D capable according to NVidia. The laptop also has an Intel HD 4600 as part of the CPU and optimus to decide which GPU to use for what.

My task is to run games in 3D on my TV from my laptop whose monitor is not 3D capable. The laptop is a Clevo P151SM1 also going by the name of PCSpecialist Vortex IV LE, Sager NP 8230 and various others from XMG and other companies.

When I connect a HDMI cable (which is used for Sky 3D) to the TV from my laptop, I get no options for Stereoscopic 3D in NVidia control panel. Also it looks like all of my displays in the control panel are under the Intel GPU and none have a 'direct output' or 'link' to the NVidia GPU. My research thus far has told me that this is the reason my laptop GPU cannot output 3D to the TV, because the 3D capable NVidia GPU doesn't have a direct transmission of data through the HDMI.

Then, how it is that TriDef 3D manages to run the games in 3D on my TV? How is it possible that the software can surpass the hardware itself? It didn't look like a cheap trick and it was definitely using my NVidia card, I could tell because of the FPS I was getting, I just don't understand how? My only explanation is that the NVidia card can in fact do 3D over HDMI to the TV but the settings are giving the impression that it cant. Is this the case or am I falling for a cheap but seemingly elaborate trick?
