Lately I have been looking to upgrade my GPU from my GTX 660. Currently, the card I am looking at is the R9 280X as it offers great performance at what seems to be a great price. I've decided that I want to go with the Sapphire Tri-X 280X. However, I've come across what seems to be a slight discrepancy. There are two different basic models of the Tri-X 280X and I cannot seem to discern their differences. The models are:

SAPPHIRE 100363-4L Radeon R9 280X 3GB GDDR5
Linked here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

SAPPHIRE 100363-5L Radeon R9 280X 3GB GDDR5
Linked here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

The only difference I can see in the model number is that one is -4L and the other is -5L. While normally I would expect the -5L to be of higher quality or power since it is a higher number, it is listed as $10 less. This is somewhat of an anomaly to me.

So, based on the information given, could anybody shed some light as to what the differences of these two cards are? I've attempted to find the information myself but am having a hard time of it. Any help is much appreciated, and I will be sure to pick best answer. Thank you, kind readers, for your time in helping me solve this. :ouimaitre:

I'm actually wondering the same thing myself...
I'm planning on buying everything from Newegg (New case, PSU, CPU cooler, and a R9 280x of some kind I'm seriously thinking about this one SAPPHIRE 100363-4L and buying another in the near future (would this PSU work for two of these cards?
CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
I know they recommend a 1000 watt one for a Crossfire configuration but I figured this is a 850 watt higher end PSU and not a 850 watt that is max power either so I hope it's enough I will need to buy a new CPU and motherboard yet too but that will have to be down the road though right now I have a Dell Optiplex 960 mini tower with 4 sticks of ram totaling 8GB I'll be using the Motherboard (if possible) and CPU but buying a new case and heatsink also besides the GPU and PSU here are the links to the case and heatsink I'm thinking about buying http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... the CPU in it is a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz, 6M, 1333FSB I believe the motherboard that came in it is a BTX so I'm assuming I'm going to have to buy a motherboard too wont I? So which of these would be better with the current setup I've laid out http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... ?)

but getting back to this post I would like to know the difference between these 3 different model numbers from Newegg (and yes I can use the compare button just as good as the next guy so please don't comment if you don't have a good and realistic answer thanks I can see just as well as you there doesn't seem to be any differences besides the price and shipping and rebates)...

and also is the Toxic is just a factory overclocked version of these? I did read somewhere where a kid posted he bought one of these and that is the case that they are just not factory overclocked is all but I would like some conformation like actual benchmarks or something please. I will be sending this message to Newegg also I believe they are closed till Monday though.

Thank you very much whoever gets us the answers!!!

Ok I just got of the phone with Newegg and they gave me Sapphire's phone number to call and ask them. All three of the cards on Newegg are the exact same card and components the only difference is the higher priced ones are just slightly overclocked more from the factory. I asked if I could just overclock the cheaper one then to a faster speed like they did and he said yes you could. Then I asked if it would void my warrantee and he said no but they advise not to overclock because then the card wears out faster and I said but don't the ones you overclock from the factory wear out faster then too and he said yes. So I would say buy the cheaper one and overclock it if you want or don't. I'm going to order the cheaper one and overclock mine. I also asked about the Toxic model and it's actually a better card than these and isn't the same card. They use better components on that card. So that solved my answer but I forgot to ask about the power supply. I Figured they wouldn't know the answers to my other questions though.

I just wish the guy that originally posted this would mark it as solved and give me a thumbs up or whatever this site has for giving a good answer lol. I bought mine (the cheaper GPU and it works fine) and went with the AMD FX-8320 3.5 GHz and a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 and G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8 GB 1866 with a Cas Latency 8
