Hi,
I have an Asus VE198 monitor that is having some problems.

Setup Background: The Asus monitor is hooked up to one of the vga ports on my GTX580. I have a dual display setup with a ViewSonic monitor using mini hdmi to hdmi (this display has no issues). The Asus monitor is set to a native resolution of 1440 x 900. If I didn't include any important details please let me know.

Problem: After seemingly random amounts of time (sometimes it's minutes / hours, sometimes it's days) the screen will stop displaying anything and simply glow white, as if the polarized film has been removed. Unplugging, holding the power button, and leaving it off for 30 seconds doesn't seem to have an effect, however, unplugging and replugging the vga cable will usually temporarily fix it. Sometimes it will flash white but go back to displaying normally. I have used a few other monitors with this display output before so I believe the output on the graphics card is okay.

What should I try doing to figure out what is wrong with it? Does it seem like a monitor issue or should I purchase another vga adapter and test that?
Any and all advice would be much appreciated,
Kedvall123

How old is the monitor? these have been around awhile...might be the power supply for the monitor is going - might want to try a different VGA cable and/or power cable to the monitor....might hook it up to another system or laptop and see if same happens, that will narrow it down to cable(s) or monitor

Thank you very much for quick response.
Tonight I will try hooking it up to a few other computers I have as well as trying a different vga and power cord.
Unfortunately I'm not sure how old it is as I got it from a friend. It looks like it is in good condition but I haven't taken it apart to look at the internals of it.

Let us know, if you open it up, might want to blow it out with compressed air

Okay now for some reason the monitor has been acting fine. I plugged it into a different computer yesterday and it worked fine for an hour so I plugged it back into my main computer to see if the issue would return and so far it hasn't happened again.
Should I replace the power cord and vga cable anyway? I still might open it up later this week if I have some time.
Thanks

Maybe you scared it :)  Any changes in the environment - ambient room temp or anything? If you have different cables - can't hurt to try them

Haha hopefully it stays scared than. There were no environmental changes as far as I know.

I decided to try some different cables and see if the problem returns. I swapped the power cord and plugged it into a different outlet and changed the vga cord as well as the dvi to vga adapter (my GTX 580 has one mini hdmi port and two dvi ports so for the vga cable I have a dvi to vga adapter). Hopefully the problem doesn't come back.
