Temporarily used Nvidia card before my ATI one arrived but windows update still prompts me to install Nvidia drivers?

I had an issue earlier today with screen colours being washed out/white after a game crashed but have since solved that issue by uninstalling my ATI driver and then reinstalling. I've since had a couple of BSOD crashes due to "system_thread_exception_not_handled atikmdag.sys" which I believe can be related to the video drivers so if it happens again I'm going to try an earlier build of my current driver.

However during my troubleshooting I noticed I had a Nvidia driver installed which puzzled me, so I uninstalled it but when I search for windows updates, an optional update is for "my" Nvidia Geforce 7900, which is the card I used only temporarily before getting my new one.

I'm not sure if this is a problem to be concerned about or if it is related to my system crashes and/or colour issues.

How can I make sure my system isn't confused about what's going on with my video card?

Thanks!

FIXED: Used the DDU app and it seems to have got rid of the prompts to install the Nvidia driver. Lets hope my other problems are solved too but right now I don't know. Thanks!

The old driver remnants may be causing issues. Run this Nvidia sanctioned driver removal tool and get rid of any Nvidia drivers it finds: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/550192/geforce-drivers/display-driver-uninstaller-ddu-v12-9-3-4-released-06-09-14-/

Then run a registry cleaner like CCleaner to clean up other registry errors and software conflicts that can cause crashes.

Have you tried removing the nvidia drivers using Guru3D's DDU? I've not personally encountered this before because my windows is set to automatically receive updates, however a check on the update history revealed that it was also updated.

Try the DDU see if it helps...
