Grade 12 Engineering: Project Ideas

I am currently doing Gr.12 engineering and I need a project idea for my ISU. The project has to do with both circuits and programming, arduino projects and similar are welcome. The project cant be super excessive, has to be something I can finish in about a month and budget friendly too. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Hmm... I am no expert on this stuff so pardon me if this suggestion is way out of the blue, but maybe you can buy some cheap transistors and put the circuits together in a logical way to form an adding machine? Eh, but that has nothing to do with programming really. Arduino is better to do something with. Maybe you could program a traffic light to show how the timing works and all, and use Arduino for the actual lights?

I did something like that last year and I think it may be too simple for an ISU. Thanks for the response though.
