Looking for the best cooling option for my AMD FX8320 processor. I am currently running my 8320 at stock clock with the stock cooler and I am not happy with performance or noise. When I game (metro:ll,bf4) games run well but the stock cooler sounds like a jet engine on load. The only way to quiet it down for regular work is to change the power saving settings in windows. temp in HWMonitor is 16 C. On load playing BF4 it has reached 70 C, way too high for my liking.

I'm interested in overclocking my cpu but I'm willing to hold off until its needed to keep noise and temps down unless I'm missing a significant performance gain from overclocking. After researching I have narrowed down to a few options but would like some input before finally deciding.

Currently I'm leaning toward the Cooler Master 212 EVO solely based on price performance as it's the cheapest option. However, for a long term investment and overclocking (im guessing 4.2 to 4.4 realistically) it may be better to get a more expensive cooler, first choice being the Xigamatec Dark Knight II or the Cooler Master Seidon 120V.

Here are system specs
Case: Thermaltake New Soprano Mid Tower
(not the best airflow, 200mm front intake, 120mm rear exhaust)
Mobo: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
Cpu: AMD FX8320 @ stock speeds
Gpu: Gigabyte R9 280x @ stock speeds
Mem: Kingston Fury Red 8GB @ 1866 GHz

-------------------------------------------------------------
I got this information from Frosty Tech

Cooler Master Seidon 120V
$49.99
Sound: 32.4 dBA (low fan) 54.3 dBA (high fan)
Performance: 23.7 C (low fan) 11.3 C (high fan)

Spire Thermax Eclipse II (NEW Verision III)
$44.99-54.99
Sound: 56.9 dBA (dual) 51.3 (single)
Performance: 10.2 dual, 10.7 single
"Thermax Eclipse II is an excellent performance heatsink for those with PC cases large enough to accommodate its 155mm height, and moderately loud noise output. In the default single-fan configuration it ranks within the Top 3 best heatsinks Frostytech has tested to date."

Xigmatek Dark Knight
$44.99-49.99
Sound: 35.1 dBA (low) 53.0 dBA (high)
Performance: 18.6 C (low) 13.7 C (high)
"Ultimately, the Xigmatek Dark Knight SD1283 Night Hawk Ed. offers very good to excellent thermal performance at stock fan speeds."

Cooler Master Nepton 140XL
$89.99
Sound: 44.2 dba low, 59.6 dba high
Performance: 12.3 C low, 7.1 C high
"Any way you look at it, Coolermaster have a real winner in the Nepton 140XL. The larger diameter (15.5mm OD) Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene tubing, mix of 140mm fans and new generation pump head / waterblock have, for now, made quite the splash in the world of All-in-One CPU liquid coolers. Highly recommended."

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
$30.35
Sound: 30.0 dB low, 47.1 dB high
Performance: 27.3 low, 12.8 C high
"In any event, the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo is an economical and well performing tower heatsink."

If you're looking for quiet, you're probably best off with a Noctua. They're a bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for, and in terms of volume and cooling capability, Noctua has some of the best reviewed products on the market. Of course, they're also bulky, since good cooling requires a lot of surface area, and a lot of the Noctua coolers can interfere with RAM with heat spreaders.

HWMonitor is 16 C - ? so you're PC is in a freezer? Use your mobo's uefi software that came with it to get reliable cpu temp readings.

If you're not interested in hard overclocking, the CM Hyper 212 evo will be fine. If you want to do some heavy overclocking, get the Seidon.

Well the cm212 works and it'll fit so go with that. Unless you get into 100 dollar coolers then you might as well get a better setup.

Or as mentioned take a shot with this,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

It may not be worth it though, it doesn't do that much better than the 212

3C on cooling 150watts for the dark night over the 212 evo. The evo could make that up with some good thermal compound

this isn't so bad

Ill get into the bios and get a legit idle temp, i wasn't even thinking when I saw it that low in HWMonitor.

Noctuas are amazing but definitely out of my price range. I was also looking at the NZXT Havik 140, but if I was going to spend that much I would get a CM Nepton 140XL.

At this point I think im going to get the CM Seidon 120V or the Xigmatek Dark Knight.

I watched this Tek Syndicate review of the Dark Knight and they got temps right with the Corsair H100. Do you guys think their results are legit? The H100 sounds like overkill. I definitely wouldn't be opposed to those results with the Dark Knight but it sounds too good to be true.

If this is BS ill get the Seidon.

This is in inches so it might be too big and frankly im to lazy to do the conversion for you.

If it fits I've seen this cooler come out as pretty popular and a really good tool for overclocking
