That should be I7 5960X, I7 5930k, and I7 5820k

It all depends on the rest of your setup. If you want 4-Way SLI, then go for the I7 5930k. If you don't, go for the I7 5820k.

There is no real reason to get the $1000 5960X.

Get the one that suits your needs. If you're going X99, you're stuck with the Haswell-E i7 options, since that's a different socket from the other Haswell CPUs. The Tom's Hardware review does a good job of speccing out all three options. Of course, we don't really know what "light to medium work station use" is, but I wouldn't really recommend a Haswell-E system for gaming, unless you love throwing money in a fire or something.

You know what you want..... this platform will be around for a while so get the 5960x if you can't afford it wait until you can. Everyone who gets a lesser chip will complain the entire time about how they wished they hadn't cheaped out and got the 8 core. You know I'm right, just save up get the one you want. All the people who do reviews are raving about how awesome this chip is and how they are putting it in their rig.... Do you think anyone will be happy with the 6 core knowing there is a 8 core out there running free.... you know what to do....

5820k is only 28 pipelines on the pcie. that will only give you 16x,8x in SLI/CF. If you want full and true 16x/16x, you'll need the 5930.

I'm in the market for this myself and I'm going to get the Rampage V Extreme with the 5930k.

28 is still plenty unless you want 4 way SLI. 28 is fine for 2 and 3 way SLI.

The benefits of X99 systems arent really for gaming though. Compare a 6 or 8 core X99 system when doing something like video editing, and it blows Z97 systems away.

I recommend the AsRock X99X Killer Motherboard with i7 5960x processors, it's really very fast,
I'm already using a system I built as follow:
AsRock Fatal1Ty X99X Killer motherboard Intel Socket LG2011-3
Intel i7 5960x 8 core processor
EVGA Geforce GTX 780 with 6 GB Memory,
2 8 GB DDR4 memory until the 16GB DDR4 memory modules start selling, I need 8 16Gb for a total of 128 GB memory.
Samsung SSD 840 EVO 1TB Disk for the Operating System.
Seagate STBD6000100 6TB Disk 2nd drive for local storage.
Thermaltake Level 10 Limited Edition chassis.
Rosewill Lighting-1300 1300W Power.

It's really working very well.
Regards,
