If you don't mind a big, loud, power-hungry card, the 580 should be better. The only comparison I could find was a 590, but the results outside of GPU compute tests heavily favored the 590.

The 580 will perform a bit better than a 270. A 270x would be a bit better than a 580.

If the psu can handle the card get the 580, they have a lot of headroom for oc, ocing the 580 is actually worthwhile as there are really no platform limitations on the card.

They'd be pretty similar, I would think. I remember the GTX 580 was just a few fps quicker than the GTX 660, and the R9 270 is also a few fps quicker than the GTX 660. Between the two though, I would get the R9 270 for the efficiency improvements. Mantle support is a nice feature, but more than offset by PhysX.

580 would be a bit better but be a power hungry carf. 270 is more power efficirnt and supports mantle. 580 is a top tier kepler card for the nvidia series wheres 270 is a mid-high tier card for amd

^ did you mean fermi?

@OP

580 was considered as top tier card in 2010. 270 is a direct rebrand of 7870 that originally launch in 2012. performance wise the two are pretty much close but 270 end up using much less power since it is based on 28nm node unlike 580 which is based on 40nm node.

A stock GTX 750 Ti is a few fps slower than a GTX 660, and the GTX 570 is also a few fps slower than a GTX 660..
Therefore, it would make sense for a stock GTX 750 Ti to roughly match the GTX 570, and for an overclocked GTX 750 Ti to surpass the GTX 570.

I know my stock GTX 750 Ti is far ahead of my brother's GTX 560, and he even has an i5-4590 as opposed to my i3-4360.

depends on what measurement. in games the 270 vs 580 are very close with the 580 being slightly faster but could run into problems with a 1.5gb vram version, the 3gb version won't run into vram issues. on the other hand… in certain compute benchmarks, they are about even, but with nvidia optimized or cuda apps, the 580 could be a bit faster to twice as fast as the 270. though there are a few apps that are coded better for the 270 also, but it won't completely demolish the 580 in them the same way that apps specifically coded for fermi cuda would. not to mention the 580 is by far the most popular custom driver quadro hacked card, so you could basically turn it into a quadro for many apps.

Almost same but he has i7 2600 opposed to my Core i5 2400 , by far i mean easily 5fps in games like bf4 , metro redux , tomb raider e.t.c , in previous titles like GTA 4 e.t.c he takes the lead.

He often offers me his card Lel
