I just got done building a brand new desktop computer and i just finished going through the BIOS and so I put in the windows 7 64bit disk and it downloaded. At the end it restarted and when starting up, it said the hardware wasn't compatible and it is required to be re-installed. every time i hit accept it just restarts the computer and the message pops up again. Did I install it wrong or do i need something else that windows 7 ultimate?

Just a guess - i think he may not have got as far as the install stage. I think it went to loading files - and didn't recognise his hard drive. Therefore, he got the incompatible hardware message.
Tell us step by step how far you are getting )with the real names of the screens and steps) and we can help you further.

Yeah, but in any case, the point was he didn't "download" it. That's a common terminology error for beginners and I was simply trying to correct the error for the future. And if he's getting the restart message, he's further than just loading. It's possible the system is too old for the OS or something else in his hardware which is why the system info is necessary.

assuming that darkbreeze is correct

try this

Make sure the hard disk is connected to the first SATA port . Usually this is port 0 , but some boards call this port 1 .

Make sure the BIOS recognizes the hard disk
That the dvd drive is set as the first boot device
Ideally have no other SATA devices connected at this time

and if that doesnt work you may have a faulty hard drive . They are easy to damage while shipping or transporting
If you have an SSD you should have mentioned that already

Well i turned on my computer and entered the BIOS and then put in the disk. From there i hit save and quit, and then the comp reset and it showed windows was loading files. After that there was the set up screen were i picked my language and accepted terms and agreements. Then came custom or upgrade choice when installing windows 7. i hit custom and then chose my hardrive from to install windows 7 to. after that it began to copyfiles windows files, expanding and installing features and updates. After it had done that a error message came up that said the hardware was not compatible and it restarted the computer. then the computer started and showed the starting windows screen and then the screen says "setup is starting services" and a error message pops up saying "windows could not complete installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation." and when i hit hit accept the computer restarts and it repeats. I have a i5 4690 CPU and a Z97-A asus motherboard and only one hardrive and no other ssd.

Ok, I'm sure myself, outlander or another member will help you afterwards if this doesn't solve the issue, but turn the power off, then back on. Immediately start pressing the delete or F2 to enter the BIOS. Look to see what you need to press to reset BIOS default or optimal settings and do so. Save settings and exit BIOS. Try the installation again. Let us know if there is still a problem, which there likely might be but it's a good starting point in any case.
