So I'm building a PC for the first time and I know what OS is but do I have to purchase like windows 8 or 7? Or can I just pirate it?

Moderator: Tom's Hardware forums do not support any form of software piracy. None. Period.

it's against rules here to post about pirating. why not just use linux fedora core 20? that's what i use, it works great, and it's free. if you pirate anything, it probably has viruses in it anyways. just warning you if you do that.

it's a free operating system that is good. takes a bit of effort to get games working but other then that, it's excellent. i was a user of xp, and i didn't want to buy it for my newer systems so i downloaded linux fedora core 20, works good. if you can install a regular windows, you can install this, just burn it as an image. select "Fedora-Live-Desktop-i686-20.torrent" from the list on this link and you should be good to go. this link ----> http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/ . other then that, your fresh out of luck, your going to have to buy windows. again, the viruses are very common when you download it, so i highly recommend you don't do that.
