So I opened up my asus a550ln-cn115 to move 2GB DDR3 RAM from my old laptop into the new one. The Asus has an extra slot to expand memory and so i assumed since both use DDR3 i could just plug in my old RAM and i'd be set.
Unfortunately it wasnt as simple as I thought. I'm not sure if the 4GB that comes with my laptop is integrated or not, or if it even makes a difference. BIOS didnt see the additional 2GB (it said 4gb instead of 6). But here's the kicker: CPU-Z recognizes the new RAM in the SPD tab but says only 4GB in the memory tab. So can anyone tell me how I can make this 2GB useful?
