Hi guys,

This may be futile, but I thought I'd come here with help. My father is not great with computers and has some how disabled the wifi on his laptop. I'm not in the same state as him, so I'm trying to help him over the phone, but haven't had luck yet. He has a Sony Vaio that's running windows 7. The wifi is working on his ipad and on a different laptop, so the router isn't the problem. He's tried restarting the router and his computer, but hasn't had any luck.

He says that he inadvertently clicked deny access to something (he's not positive what, although he thinks it had "intel" in the message) and since then he hasn't been able to connect to the home internet. He was able to connect to his work's wi-fi, but for some reason he's only unable to connect to the home one.

Any trouble shooting advice? He has AVG on his computer. I've tried temporarily disabling it, and that didn't help. I also tried to do a system restore, but he got the message that system restore failed due to his Antivirus software running. His internet service provider is Cable One.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Solution
Three immediate possibilities come to mind.

1. Some Vaios have a key-combo (the Fn key + __?) OR a dedicated Off-On WiFi switch. If it's a dedicated Off-On button, it probably has "WiFi" or "Wireless" lettering near it. If it's an Fn-Key Combo, then it's going to have some odd symbol - maybe like a radio-beacon with 'waves'... here's a Googles Images offering of possibilities. One of those could be on the top of a Function Key.

2. He could have gotten into the Firewall and 'disabled' access to the Internet. (Doubtful.)

3. He might have also disabled access to his "network" thru the Network properties.

Hopefully, others can jump in and offer the correct one!
