Hello all,
I'm looking to build a new system now that DDR4 and X99 are finally here, my current system is way overdo for an upgrade and i'm looking to spend big for a lasting system (my current one lasted me 5 years) so i'm looking towards something that lasts a minimum of 3-4 years (i guess till the gen after comes? or till it gets way outdated!)

Here's the deal, I'm a so called digital artist that is looking to get into animation as well as using game engines to create games (say UE4) but i'm also a huge gamer that likes to run everything at max settings (i don't really care about 4K even though i'd probably get a 4k monitor, but it'd be a nice add-on) also i spend most of my day behind my pc (minimum of 10 hours) so it's gotta be durable!
Money is not a problem but i don't really like things like GTX TITAN or the Z version of it.
also i'm willing to wait till mid November at max for building the system as my current system is stalling my art work and gaming progress.

So here's what I had in mind: (presume I'm planning for a water/cryogenic cooled system on huge overclock)
CPU (intel only): Intel Core i7 5960X (will there be anything better till mid November?)
Motherboard: Rampage V extreme (should I wait for black edition? is there a better motherboard out there?)
Graphics Card (Nvidia only): 780ti (should i make it a dual SLI?) or should I wait for the new graphics card Nvidia's launching very soon?
Ram: 32GB of DDR4 (later to be upgraded to 64GB), will a 3000MHz make a huge difference compared to a 2100 one or so? also what brand should I go for?
Also do recommend a good soundcard :)

Money is not a problem but i don't really like things like GTX TITAN or the Z version of it.

Every good answer gets an imaginary double chocolate chip cookie made with love :D <3

Nice build, wait for 900 series, you'll get something better than 780 Ti and either way the prices of 700 series will fall. In animation and design, memory speed is crucial and 3GHz will be lot better for OCing than 2.1GHz.

The extra bandwidth will be handy when rendering huge scenes/ textures w/ CPU, will save you a sec or two. Nope Rampage is one of the finest E chip board series and will probably bring up the best.

Can't be sure enough until people get their hand on it. What softwares do you wish to use for animation? Some are CPU inclined while many are GPU inclined and there getting a Titan/ Black will be a better overall buy.

Looking at the memory, G.Skill and Corsair will likely remain the best brands, any of them will be...
I can't think of something, I really need your budget and your thoughts on this. ;)

The MoBo comes with a pretty decent sound card until you want to get something like 7.1 surround on it, even then it'll be good enough.

A custom water loop will be good enough for serious OCing, as according to Tom's review of Haswell-E, the temps aren't too warm.

Just hope 900 series brings a better 4k performer as 3GB won't be good enough to render anime scenes and textures in games will feel suffocated, fingers crossed!

Everything in the above build looks good but i'd wait for the new Nvidea cards if you're not in a rush. Maybe go for a higher wattage PSU and gold/platinum if you are planning really high clocks.

when the nda lifts in a few days we may get some more info on the 980 cards. right now if there as fast as the 780 but are cheaper and use less money it a win for your build to buy two. on sound cards there only two makers now soundblkaster and asus. the asus cards now for high end people that do music. a lot people say the drivers for the newer soundblasters could do more work. (buggy). ddr-4 ram kits are still new I wait some more for more vendors to drop kits. the only intel cpu that uses ddr-4 will be skylake and that some time next year for mid price rigs.

Thank you for your replies! cookies well deserved my good sirs!
You see, I had no idea there were 900s coming! I think that would definitely be worth the wait! as I said I'm not in a real rush and can hold back for till mid November (because i'd have to start readying a portfolio for my university application :D
hopefully by then there would be some better optimized ddr4s out as well *fingers crossed*
I think the VM sounds cool but still would like to see it put to test further more :D
@MeteorsRaining I'm not too sure about the applications I will be using as I'm only starting out in animating and CGI, currently I can do 3d modeling with maya and substance painter, zbrush, ect. to create a character or environmental features so now i'm looking to take up animating so I can have better ease using a game engine! (i still haven't done my research though!)
I liked your build @Joeteoh99 (specially the case xD) but yeah i'd probably wait for the 900 series and make the power supply a gold one, in terms of storage also 1TB SDD and 4TB HDD or something ;p
and I think max price would be $8k-$10k for me... as I mentioned earlier money isn't really a problem!

All the very best! Well for apps, Maya can use both CPU and GPU, Substance painter relies more on GPU while Zbrush on CPU (its all about sculpting). A good Gaming Engine is UE, 4 is out for studs!
Btw, you'd want to do some serious OCing on 5960X to get something like 4.2-4.5GHz to get the best out of it.
PS: Cookies were tasty x)
