so i am low on budget and things that get to my country are really overpriced.
i have central house surge protector or whatever and i am using upc. i want to use lg smart tv as monitor though and will go to same outlet. (chances of lighting hitting are extremely low since no lightnings usually and we have much taller buildings next to us.)

so what i am asking is SVEN Optima Base 5 sockets (5m) vs plugging into outlet without protector. which is better?
(and i have been using tvs and pcs for 105+ years without any protectors(other than centrals) and never had problems so i think articals about them are a bit overrated)

Some personal exp. I have a lg hdtv and had to replace the mainboard (eeprom chip) twice. The first time I got a lightning strike close to the house and it got several things. The second time it was plugged into a surge protector and another storm came through no lightning but the powered flickered for like a second and when I turned everything back on the tv was dead. I have 4 tvs and the lg is the only one with problems. After googling it seems lg is a known problem with the eeprom chips on the mainboards (or it was with my model). So the only way to protect it is with a battery backup unit to protect from surge and under voltage. This doesnt answer your question just some fyi.
