I was playing Battlefield 4 one day and then the screen turned to yellow and black lines then a few seconds later a blue screen into a no display on the monitor. I have tried re installing the card but I've had no luck getting it to work again. I'm not too sure if it is the motherboards fault or the card itself. The was a reference 7970 by His and it was overclocked 1.1ghz stable, My Board is a z97 Msi Gd65.

The rest of my specs are
Cpu:I5 4670K clocked at 4.8
Ram: 8gb gskill ddr3 ram at 1866mhz
Hdd: 1tb WD blue
SSd: 240 gb segate 840 drive i think not too sure
Psu: Coolermaster vanguard s 750w 80plus gold
Cooler: Nh D14
Case: NZXT H440

Everything was bought and assembled in April except for the card which was donated to me by a cousin. Also when I use the integrated graphics the computer boots up fine but trying to boot with the hdmi cable in the card won't work.

Edit: when the card is installed the fans spin however nothing displays onto the monitor and also the msi board comes with an error code 62

Give us some more info about the actual card. Is the fan spinning up when you turn on the computer? Will a message show on the screen saying no signal or do you have a blue screen? This will help in diagnosing the issue.

OK, so my card is a 7970 by His with the 7970 reference cooler, I don't know too much about the card other than that cause it was a gift from my cousin. I think it is this though http://www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-678.shtml

The Gpu's fan spin when the rig is turned on but the monitor is black [no messages or anything].

The only time there was a blue screen was a few seconds after the system crashed which then turned black after a few seconds.

Yea Thabks

It's possible that it could be the hdmi cord like you said. If the fan is spinning and there are otherwise no motherboard notice LEDs flashing about the GPU, it is highly likely that the cord may be the issue. Try using a new hdmi cord or use a different type altogether such as dvi-d or displayport. If it's still not working, you may need to rma the card. Come back here with the outcome of this process.

Also, try using the onboard graphics if you can to test if it is actually that cord that is defective, but from the sounds of both the monitor going black and the motherboard error code (which by the way is a signal for no GPU) then you may have a card you need to rma.

Ok thanks for your reply, I re installed the card and connected it to the monitor with a dvi-d i think and the outcome is the same.
There is also a code on the board saying 62 [it normally says A2]. Also When I take out the card and put the hdmi cable straight into the motherboard, everything thing works fine but it runs on the integrated graphics.
I really now think it is the card, I can't RMA it I think it's about 3-4 years old [My cousin got it on release] so i'll have to get a new card.
Any suggestions? I have 600 dollars saved up for a 4k display but I think the card is more important. I play on a 1080p monitor and I like playing BF4, Planetside 2, AC4 ect. I was always thinking about a 780 or 290x. By the way I live in AU so prices may differ to US. Or should I wait till I go to the US this Christmas [Personally I don't think i can :D ]

Really depends on what your build will be. I suggest going with nvidia if it is purely for gaming. You could wait for the 900 series of nvidia cards which seem to look pretty good on the synthetic benchmarks. How many monitors do you plan on using?

It would probably be 1 monitor however I am planning to get a 4k display within next year

In that case, if you can wait I would recommend waiting on the nvidia 900 series GPUs as they will no doubt handle 4k much better for a lower price than the current 700 series cards.
