Will adding really old drives to a computer slow it down?

I'm building a new machine. While I'll be using a 120GB SSD for a system disk, I plan on putting two old 2.5" laptop hard drives in there for storage. My question is, if the two drives (which are several years old) aren't in the best shape, can they bottleneck or slow down my system in some way? I'll only be using them for storage.

Solution
They will only slow down anything running off them. So if you're using them only for storage you won't have anything slowed down.
