I have the Belkin N300 Modem and Router in one at the momment. My question is can I use the Belkin N300 as a stand alone Modem if I was to go out and buy a router. I'm quite a noob when it comes to things like this. Also will buying a Router help things like my ping in games whilst family do things like stream HD videos or download.

The Belkin N300 is a router only. You must have a modem from your ISP somewhere that connects to it. That being said you can simply replace the Belkin N300 with a new router. A new router may or may not help your situation. If your PC is wireless, and it can use the 5Ghz band then a new modem will likely help. If your PC is wired into the router, or if your PC can only use the 2.4Ghz band, a new wifi router will probably not help.
Also if your upload speed from your ISP is low, then a new router may not help no matter what.
