I am coming to the end of my 1st build now and I just need to pick out a case and some case fans, but first I must pick an optical drive to choose. I dont think i can go too wrong here, but I would like a bit of input if it was to be helpful.

The drives I am choosing from are:
Samsung SH-224DB/RSBS - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Asus DRW-24F1ST - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

LG GH24NSB0 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00E5YSTGY/?tag=pcp0f-21

Lite-On iHAS124-14 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

or any drives in this price bracket.

Are there much differences between these and which one should I choose and why?

Any of them. In my current systems here in the room, I have an LG, Asus, and Lite-on. I see no difference between them.

I've not noticed any noise difference in the drives. Any difference would probably be the actual disk, rather than the drive.

ya, looks like the -04 is revised for windows support for like use with 8 and 8.1

-04--- Compatibility DOS 6.xx, Windows 8 / Windows 7 / XP / 2003 / Vista and Linux operating system

the non -04 -- Compatibility Microsoft Windows® 2000/XP/Vista

so best I see its firmware out of the box
