Hi, I have 2500K CPU that is not overclocked yet.
I am interested in getting NVIDIA 970 when it comes out which I heard that the performance would be between 780 and titan.
I was wondering if I would need to overclock my CPU.
Thank you.

Yeah you probably will, the 2500K is still good, however at stock it will most likely bottleneck a 780.

But if you overclock it to say 4.5-4.8Ghz then their won't be a bottleneck for a while.

Plus, you got one of the best overclockers intel has ever made, so 4.8 shouldn't be too hard.

I've never overclocked so I don't know how to and if it will make a big difference.
My PC has been making my room really hot so I don't know if it will be a good idea either.
I have been using 2500K stock speed, 8GB, and 6850 GPU with 700PSU and SSD. Windows 7...etc. Large Gaming case (Riven 2)

could you give me your full specs?

Since you haven't overclocked ever, I'd recommend following a overclocking guide (tons on google) and only do minor overclocks like 3.8-4.0 ghz.

CPU = 2500K
GPU = Gigabyte 6850
Motherboard = Asrock Extreme4 P67
Ram = Ripjaw X 2x4GB
PSU = seasonic 620 M12 II Bronze
DVD drive = Asus
SSD = Crucial m4 256GB
Case = Silverstone Raven 02
Monitor = Samsung Syncmaster BX2331

If I overclock my 3.3GHz 2500K into 3.8, will there be huge speed boost and doesn't bottleneck 780 or above GPU?
Will it also overheat?

um, it won't be huge but their will be a noticeable difference in speed. and I believe it will get rid of any bottleneck but can't be 100% sure of that.
