Hi, this is my first build. I bought the ASUS gryphon z87 and the intel core i7 4790k 4ghz. I put everything together last night on the test bench with minimal components: CPU and ram (that definetly works). As soon as I powered it up the red cpu led turned on. It refuses to go to bios or post, or ahow anything on screen. I replaced the processor and the cooler many times. The pins arent bent, it hasnt been exposed to static. Removed the bios battery and tried my friends psu and ram still nothing. What do i do?? Thanks

More about : red cpu led boot

To use that board with a 4790K, you'll probably need to update the BIOS. It needs to be Ver. 1802 or later.

Do you have a 3rd Gen Intel chip or regular Haswell available, or have a friend that will let you borrow theirs?

I don't think that board has the USB BIOS Flashback feature, but if it does you can flash the BIOS using a USB thumbdrive.

That is true could be BIOS. Careful though, 3rd Gen Intel is Ivy Bridge. Haswell is 4th gen.

You are correct - I blame lack of sleep :)  Let me rephrase:

Do you have access to a regular Haswell chip that you can use to flash the BIOS?

Yea having Asus has its advantages, I don't think anyone else has this feature. Most motherboard features that get talked up are just bloatware, but this one is a nice little gem.

Have fun playing with the new board :)
