Hello, my Dell laptop came with 4GB RAM installed but was insanely slow. I did some research and the max is 16GB so I installed the max. If I run DXDIAG within Windows (7 32-bit) it shows 16GB installed, but if I look at Properties under My Computer it shows that only 3.15GB is usable. What does this mean?

Your operating system limits you to 4 GB RAM maximum. Part of that 4 GB is reserved for the operating system itself, leaving you with just the 3.15 GB for everything else. You need to upgrade to a better operating system to use all 16 GB.

As NBSN said, you need a 64-bit OS to run over 4GB. Also, to do that, will have to wipe out the 32-bit OS to install the 64-bit OS.
