Hi all,

Quick question, I have a three year old laptop and I am looking into upgrading the HDD and OS and I am weighing out the investment at the moment.

It's got a 3rd gen i5 3210m CPU so hardware wise it's still not a bad laptop while idle temps after cleaning out the fans are about 33-46 degrees while about 69ish under a fan test.

Has anyone got any opinions on the current temps that would be able to weigh in?

Solution
Within spec, are you having any issues?

You can always go to the point of re-applying thermal compound. You can usually shave a few degrees there compared to the factory installation (if you buy a decent compound)

Or modifying the fan profile via software to keep temps lower.

Issues, none really at all, I guess I always look into things a bit much before deciding is an upgrade worth it. No overheating to speak of through the base and it's original temps out of the factory were only in the 30's so no major increase in 3 years.

It's steady temps throughout and not really any fan noise unless playing the odd game here or there but I have a cooling pad to help out there. I guess if needed I could always use the thermal compound I used with my desktop, it's relatively decent.
