Hello everyone. I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this thread because this does not focus on one operating system only.

My issue is that I have just started another line of work where I test different kinds of internal computer components from motherboards, CPU, Memory, Graphics cards, HDD, Sound cards, etc...

What I have been doing lately is that I have different kinds of HDD labeled to a specific kind of motherboard example ASUS MAXIMUS IV to use as a bootable drive with drivers installed so I can run windows 7 operating system and run the software test and stress test to check if the motherboard is good for resale or bad. The same way goes for graphics card and CPU.

Since the type of brand and model of motherboards I test range from many different kinds. I end up having many different HDD to use and keep for future use. So if there is a new motherboard I have that we still don't have any HDD with OS and drivers installed. I end up getting another HDD to install fresh OS and drivers so I can use it to test and for future tests of the motherboard of the same kind.

I would like to ask if is there a much efficient way to test them, like a operating system that can run on different kind of motherboards loaded with drivers already that I can use to run the test and stress test. So I can only use less HDD to keep and run my test on multiple motherboards without having to re install the operating system again and installing drivers.

What about Linux?

You could also look at Windows PE.

I will try Windows PE, will I not have issues with it if I use one HDD with windows PE installed and I plug in different kinds of motherboard, CPU and Graphics card on a daily basis. Because on a daily basis I test an average of 10-15 different kinds MB, CPU, GPU so right now I also require different kinds of HDD preloaded with the motherboard driver of a specific brand and model.

Either a Volume License from MS, or free Linux.
What are you testing this hardware for? Basic functionality?

Ubuntu has a pretty good driver base.

These are customer returned products that we need to refurbish. So we have to thoroughly test it, figure out what's wrong with it. If it passes all the test from the software we use then we send them out for resale.

Right now we have about more than 200+ different HDD labeled with 200+ brand and model preloaded with it's drivers.

but if we can find a single OS to use that we can run our test just as good as what we are doing now then we will try that.

I'm just finding a way to be more efficient and use less HDD and time.
