Hi, so recently I've been getting this problem where my pc will crash entirely while playing a very select few games.

To provide some background on this, I purchased an alienware x51 about a year ago and when I first got it, it worked flawlessly except that my pc would crash and reboot after about 5 minutes of being in-game. I researched quite a bit and ended up talking to dell support and it turns out it was caused by a driver problem which I got resolved and I haven't dealt with the issue until recently.

About a few months ago I purchased the DayZ standalone game on steam and after installing and playing the game for not even a few minutes, the computer crashed and rebooted just as it did before. I tried every other game that I play such as minecraft or league of legends and I have no problems playing them what so ever. I didnt really bother with the problem and assumed it was just a glitch with DayZ itself. I never ended up actually playing the game since then.

So now recently I purchased Assassin's Creed Revelations about a day or two ago and I started getting that same problem. After about a minute or so of being in game my pc crashed entirely and rebooted. I was really eager to play the game so I did quite a bit of research on the problem and I couldnt exactly find anything that was specific to my issue. Today, I updated my graphics card driver as well as my audio driver because I've heard that outdated audio drivers could also be the cause of the problem. Surely enough, I still got the exact same results, pc crashes at the same time and reboots. So now today I tried running the game on the lowest graphics quality setting possible and to my surprise the game has been running fine with no crashes.

At this point I figure I might as well try to narrow down exactly what the problem could be. I went into the graphics settings and maxed one option at a time. I first started with environmental quality on max and everything else kept to disabled or lowest. The game still ran fine and I didnt notice any crashes out of the short time I played. Oh and it's also worth noting I have myself saved right before a point where I would crash in game just for the purpose of testing this. Anyways I next moved on to the Texture Quality and changed that to the maximum possible and lowered the changed the environmental back to lowest. I test runned it again but this time the game didnt crash at the point it usually would, and then crashed about 20 seconds after that point.

As of now that's all I've tested before I decided to go ahead and make a post on here to see if anyone can enlighten me on this situation and my options available to fix this problem. It would certainly be much appreciated.

Of course, I couldnt leave PC Specs out so here they are (this is all from the "My PC information" file that comes pre-loaded on the alienware computer):

*One thing that I'd like to note about this is that I upgrade my GPU to a GTX 660 a while back so the video card info isnt reliable.

As a side note, I could provide any Event Viewer info / bluescreen error reports as needed.

It is probably a driver problem again, you said you upgraded it to a gtx 660. If it was configured properly it would read the gtx 660 instead, Also I'm guessing you have no overclocks on anything?

The reason why the game crashes is because of higher gpu load, which could mean instability in the gpu or driver errors.

I noted in the post that those specs were in a file that came with the pc when I first got it, and the only thing that was modified was the gpu which I changed to a GTX 660. Also I use the Geforce Experience program and I updated it a day or two ago with no improvements

Try installing the driver from about a month ago (331.40 i believe). The driver version that came out after that caused me issues with my 660, so I reinstalled the older driver and everything worked fine again. I'm gonna wait a couple of months before I update my driver so I can be sure the problem has been addressed.

Tried that but it still had no improvement.
