I am assembling a rig, I bought a bundle of several parts with the intention to keep some, sell the rest and replace them.

The bundle included a lot of stuff but the important parts were

1: Obsidian 800D Case

2: A Frostbyte 360 Liquid Cooler from OriginPC.

3: An Asus Rampage IV Extreme motherboard.

I bought this package with the intention of selling the Asus motherboard, and buying a new one for my I7 4790k processor.

I chose the MSI Z97 XPOWER AC, it seemed like the best choice but I'm honestly not that knowledgeable and I asked around a lot. Anyway, I received it today and I excitedly started putting everything together until I stumbled upon that the damn thing has NO mounting hardware at all. Not even a single screw. I guess I'm lucky I have the screws from the Asus board. But the problem swiftly arose when I realized my Frostbyte 360 cooling system wouldn't be able to go on!

Like what the hell? Do motherboards usually not come with any ability to mount stuff or what..

So I'm asking essentially if anyone out there knows where to get a mounting bracket compatible with the frostbyte 360 and the MSI board I have, that will fit the case I have (probably not an issue). Checking the Originpc website, and the MSI website, lead me nowhere unless I missed something.

P.S. Honestly, if anyone out there knows the Frostbyte 360 sucks.. let me know. Ill just go buy the Swiftech H220-X. WHICH HOPEFULLY would come with stuff to mount it..

P.S.S. Might belong in motherboards section? But this is mostly about my CPU cooler.

Thanks for your time and help in advance everyone.

I think we need to back up a little here.

The X-socket allows you to mount 1366 coolers to 2011 CPUs. The asus Rampage IV extreme is a 2011 socket and the frostbyte was mounted to it via either 2011 mounting hardware or 2011 hardware. Either way it is incompatible with your 1150 Mobo. Unless you happen to have the 115x hardware included when you bought it or any of the other stuff you'll have to source the stuff yourself. You're best bet is to contact the seller or origin PC. However the seller might not have it as it was from origin which means it is likely a prebuild where the have only included the stuff needed for that build.

All the mounting stuff for a CPU cooler comes with the CPU cooler. It would be impossible for mobo manufacturers to include mounting hardware for every single CPU cooler.

Surely the stuff for mounting the Frostbyte 360 came with the bundle?

The Asus Rampage IV Extreme comes with something it calls an X-Socket which mounts almost anything. The thing is, I can't just rip it off the Asus and put it on the MSI.. or can I?.. If I did Id probably say goodbye to selling it.. uhg.

Regardless I don't think it would truly fit the new mobo.

Anyway, the bundle didn't come with a lot of the hardware and I sent a request to see if they HAD it so they could send it to me. It came mostly pre assembled. Which is neither here nor there. But the problem still lies in how I can't mount the cooler.. hopefully they will get back to me with the original hardware but there is another problem that might arise.

The frostbyte 360 original mounting bracket might not fit? Highly unlikely but possible.

Are there no aftermarket watercooling mount brackets?.. none?

The Frostbyte mounting bracket WILL fit. Thats what it's made for. And when it was assembled to the asus board, you have all components you will need.

To make it clear, mounting hardware belongs to the cooler, not to the motherboard. The X thing is to mount on the motherbpard you will use the cooler on. It has zero relation to the motherboard, a motherboard brand or the chipset. The only thing that matters is the Socket. LGA 2011 and 2011-3 share the same cooling mounting, 1155 and 1150 do too. The asus board is 1150, the msi one too. Just take all the parts for mounting from the asus board and put them on the msi one. Once more, they have zero relation to the asus board.

And of course there are no aftermarket mounting brackets. They vary from cooler to cooler and don't affect the performance. Thats why they are part of the cpu cooler. You got it assembled on the asus board. Take anything from that off and use it for the msi one.

Ok, Ill yank the mounting bracket off the Asus board tomorrow and throw it on the MSI. I'll need to fetch a torque(torx?) screwdriver while Im out and about, and Ill get back to you. I really thought the Rampage IV came with it, and didn't want to devalue the board upon resale. But if it's standard op to get/sell mobos without brackets then Ill be fine.

Well well, heres the deal.

Today I got myself a torx screw set. Turns out the X-Socket thing on the asus board IS UNMOVABLE. All the screws are basically just for show, the thing CAN'T be taken off without basically ripping it out of the board, and taking half the board with it. (apparently, I spent a good 15 minutes on it..)

So I found origin contact info and called them up, turns out they have the exact mounting hardware I need, that will fit both the Z79 Xpower AC, and the Frostbyte 360. It's gonna cost about $11 for them to send it to me, according to the sales rep I spoke to.

The seller of the bundle never got back to me. Bleh.

Well, Im gonna be running a stock Intel Cooling fan for the next few days till it arrives.. no overclocking for me till then.

So now the question really is, is who wants to buy this old asus board I have? Heh. But really, thanks for the assistance everyone.
