Hello people. I apologize in advance for my poor English. This is also my first post so please be patient if i make any mistakes

I've had this notebook computer for two years now and it recently started having random lag spikes out of nowhere. Here are the computers specs:
Intel Core i7 Q 740 @ 1.73GHz x8 (hyperthread)
NVidia GeForce GT 425M 1GB
6GB DDR2 RAM
TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 1TB HDD (Partitioned: 500GB on C:\ 131GB on D:\ Documents 300GB on E:\ Gaming)

I'll give you a bit of a rundown on what OSes it had for 2014. From December of last year to March it had Ubuntu 13.10 as its only OS. Ever since then it had Windows 8 Pro (original). A few days ago, I installed Windows 7 Professional (Microsoft Toolkit). Ever since about late June, many things started getting random lag spikes. All of my Source engine games (TF2, L4D2, GMod and HL2), Surgeon Simulator, YouTube (or any site with a video player) at 1080p and even the Steam client itself (browsing store/community) have a 20 second drop in FPS (9-10fps most of the time) and then have 20 seconds of how they always ran before this happened (60-90fps). If it helps, background programs that usually run are: Steam, uTorrent and Google Drive. I opened the computer and checked every single cable to make sure they were connected (they all were but the computer is missing some screws). I don't have a can of compressed air to thoroughly clean out the fan

Get something to measure the temps to see if it is throttling because of heat.

Where is the laptop sitting when it lags? Desk, lap, etc.

On a wooden dinner table. That's the temps when it's idling on the desktop by the way

Oh jeeze, I thought that was gaming. Yeah I would use some compressed air to try and clean out any dust and prop it up to get more airflow underneath. There are some laptop cooler stands that prop it up and some have fans.

Thanks for the help! Where I live, compressed air is hard to find (you sometimes find it in a home improvement store) and I had a stand but the dog got a hold of it. I'll get back to you if this doesn't fix the issue
