I'm going to be building a mid-high end gaming rig this year and I keep going back and fourth on the motherboard. Here's my specs so far http://pcpartpicker.com/user/700mAdOg700/saved/JNkWGX I'm going to be doing some light overclocking, and I want the board to have good on-board sound because I don't want to get a sound card. My maximum price range for a motherboard is like 140$ but I would like to spend around 120$

Here are 3 choices for a little more than $120:
-Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128710&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

-Asus Z97-K/CSM) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K2R6E60/?tag=pcpapi-20

-ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157501&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

If it were up to me, I would have chosen the Red/Black ASRock.

This doesn't have to do anything with the best motherboard subject, but I would like to say that having a sound card offers none to barely any improvement. As long as you plug in your headset or speakers into the back where the motherboard is, you would be avoiding any possible noise coming from your other cables. (Please do not get off topic and reply towards this post).

Anyways, about the best Z97 motherboard, I would recommend the:

- ASRock Z97 Extreme6 ($149.99) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157500
I don't know if it is really worth it's price, but it has many features you may use.

- Asus Z97-A ($144.99) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132118
The motherboard itself is a great value. It also (in my opinion) has great quality.

-ASRock Z97 Extreme4 ($128.79) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157503
A basic Z97 motherboard. Not that many features, but not a lot of people use them anyways.

- GigabyteGA-Z97X-UD3H ($116.00) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JKCHDC2/?tag=extension-kb-20
Has support for 5th generation Intel Processors. It also has 115 dB HD Audio.

- ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer ($137.99) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157505
This is what I recommend. It has lots of great features and is the best bang for its buck.

- MSI Z97-Gaming 5 ($139.99) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130770
This is mainly for gamers who want the best audio. This motherboard's features are mainly focused around the audio.

Hope these recommendations help! Also, you won't need a sound card unless you are a professional audio type of person.
