Hello everyone. I am primarily an Apple user. My 2011 MacBook Pro 15" has the Radeongate issue. It's dying ever so quickly, even as I type this.

I need to get a new machine up and running ASAP. This weekend would be ideal.

I have never built a computer before. Can you guys please review my build. I am looking for some future-proofing. I do not want to spend much more than $2000 Canadian.

I will be using this machine mostly for development and some gaming. Here is what I have configured.

Is this good? Everything I will need? Should there be any changes? I know this shouldn't be rushed but I need a new machine ASAP for work. Thanks kindly.

If you can't see the image here are the specs.

Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case $119.00
Asus Z97-A Socket 1150 Intel Z97 Chipset $159.99
Intel Core i5-4590 Quad-Core $209.00
Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR 3 1600MHz $196.99
ASUS Radeon R9 290 4GB GDDR 5 $489.00
Corsair Builder Series CX750 750 Watt 80 PLUS Bronze Power Supply $79.99
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" SATA SSD $139.99
Samsung U28D590D 28" 4K Ultra UHD LED Monitor $549.00

Total $1943.95

I don't see your link or a list of your specs.

Depends what you mean by development.

Otherwise you've built an overclocking system without the processor to do it, you can save on your motherboard.

I guess the 4k monitor is an added bonus, but you will struggle to game in that resolution.

Development includes web, 3d, and game. At the 4k resolution I can just turn games down to 1080p right? Any suggestions on the motherboard, and what do I need an i7?

If you aren't gonna get a overclockable(k) version you can get an H97 motherboard. But with a build like this I would say bite the bullet and get an i5-4690k or an i7 if you can afford it, more future proof.

What is the difference between the i5 I picked and the i5-4690k you speak of? Also, I do not know what overclocking is.

That is the difference: .1 hMz base clock and the ability to increase the frequency of the chip(which usually requires raising voltages and voiding the warranty).

If I will not be doing that does that really matter for my purpose? Thanks for you time Beacause0789, appreciate it.

No problem, well if you don't plan on overclocking H97 motherboards are usually cheaper than Z97 and the only difference is overclocking.

You should be able to turn the resolution down but seeing things at 4k will make 1080p look ridiculous. i5's are generally for gaming and light workloads, you need an i7 or more and that's where my expertise ends.

As far as the motherboard it's not a bad choice to select a gamer oriented one if none of the budget ones provides the connectivity options you are after.

I know you want a quick answer so you should open a new thread with just the basics. Don't say apple. Don't provide a parts list (at first). Just:

Budget
What it's for. (provide details)
