28-pin psu output? (first time builder)

Was about to install the 24-pin power connector to the motherboard when i realized that the 24-pin cable is supposed to be inserted into a 18+10 input in the psu, but the psu manual doesn't mention this. Is it normal for a power cable to have more outputs from the psu than inputs into the motherboard?
