Look for a router that can work as an access point (AP). This way you can use the 2 routers to work together to have increased coverage of one network. Also, make sure to setup your new AP with the same SSID and password of your router.

So what would you recommend? would i also be able to keep the HDD private from everyone else on the wifi?

Most of the routers can do this. The HDD can remain private if the network is encrypted, although just because the router has a USB port, most are happy with a flash drive, but unhappy with a hard drive plugged in as they require more power.

If it is a lot of data requiring a hard drive, then you should put it in a NAS.
