I recently built a new PC last month. After experiencing some networking issues I replaced the motherboard. Since then I've been experiencing some issues with the system freezing during mild to heavy load. Running memory tests turned out clean but I am unable to complete a single CPU stress test, with the system freezing within 40 seconds of start.

Idling/low load temperatures of the cores are 30-32'C. Under stress test they hit 70-80'C. I've dug around and I believe these are normal.

Case: Aerocool DS-Cube
Motherboard: Maximums VII Gene
Processor: Intent i7-4790K cpu @ 4.00ghz
Cooler: Zalman NPS 9900 Max
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770
Memory: 32gb 1600mhz DDR3
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional
Case fans: 1x120mm Delta FFB1212H-F00 (4000rpm, 150.33CFM)
Case fans: 1x200mm Thermaltake CL-f015-PL20BL-A (800rpm, 129.639 CFM)

The hardware is all new I built the PC from scratch and it was my first time doing so, though I have fiddled with PC innards before, just not from the ground up. The first time I put it together I applied too much thermal compound and it did spill over the top edge but did not drip down to the base. I cleaned it and reset it with the current heatsink twice (the first time was when I swapped the motherboard, the second when I thought the heatsink might be the issue and cleaned and reset it.

I am out of ideas on what to do next to determine the problem since I can't even complete a basic stress test or benchmarking using Intel's own Extreme Tuning Utility.

If you overclocked, try lowering your clocks.

cpu temp hitting 80 seems too hot..

I am not doing any overclocking.

is this with 4 memory sticks, or a pair? (Most motherboards need more conservative timings for stability with 4 modules)

Check for CPU stability with a single stick or a single pair, at SPD timings and recommended DDR3 mem voltage levels....motherboard stability loaded with memory is another thing entirely.

I agree with the post above. Try to limit your RAM into 16G only by removing the 2 sticks. Try if this solves the problem.
