cant get monitor to turn on, fresh built system..

i just got the board to power up but the monitor wont come on to see the bios either with the GPU or the on-board jack..not sure what to do..real rusty on building and took a big bite..

Plug the monitor into the GPU slots and not in the Mobo.

did that and still nothing..everything is powering up...as soon as i turn it on the monitor comes on...then goes to sleep

Thus the monitor gets the signal from the computer?
If yes, try plugging the monitor into different computer.

first i thought the PSU wasnt working properly so i tested that on another computer and that one booted up fine..so the PSU is working...all components are brand new out of the box...the monitor works ( tried it on another computer) now im stumped
