Repeated Network Adapter Failures

Hi,

I'm suffering from a repeated issue that I can't diagnose.

In the last year I've had 5 motherboards from 2 different brands. Each time, the network adapter hardware fails.

Starts off ok, then after a few weeks / months, the adapter takes longer to sync when the pc is started.

The as it starts to fail I get error messages such as:

After this, if I reload the drivers it works for a short time, then usually totally failure.

My network consists of Cat 5e patch cable from the PC to the wall. The armoured Cat 5e to a wall plate by the phone point. The Cat 5e patch cable to the modem. Then Belkin high quality RJ11 to the phone plate.

Current onboard network adapter is Atheros.

OS is Win 7 64 bit.

What could be causing repeated failures?

Solution
Hi
I would have to suspect surges are slowly damaging the network chip on the motherboard.
Might want to try a surge protected power strip that has phone line and ethernet protection sockets (RJ45 and RJ11) and also plug PC and modem into surge protected strips.
Get a network card and use this instead of the motherboard one, much cheaper to replace and may be more resilient.

Ok Thanks.

Some ideas there. I do have a surge protected power strip. Do you think it could be a network issue?

Also, do you think it could be the modem as all have happened on the same modem?
