Hi. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 and it has been recently getting pretty hot. The highest its gotten is 98 degrees. I'm not sure what is an unsafe temperature for this card, but I don't think it should be in the 80s and 90s. I think the fan on the card is going out as I started hearing a knocking sound coming from my computer and then it started running hot. The only games I play on this computer are World of Warcraft,Hearthstone, and Second Life. I don't believe any of those games are graphically intensive so I don't think the card should be heating up that badly. Is it time to get a new card? If so, should I go with 760 or 770?

Solution
Check the heatpipes running off of the card's cooler, check for discoloration. Also 98 C is not unheard of for a graphics card at all, perhaps it's because you are playing for over 2+ hours at a time.

Be sure your case is moving the hot air out efficiently...

Also your hardware is total overkill for those games unless you're gaming at 4K. Try a 750Ti

lol... Funny you should say that about the 750 Ti. I actually bought that last week and after putting it in and seeing that it was a downgrade from my old card, I gave it to my wife. I might get another one when I have some extra money, but I really wanted an upgrade.
