Yes go with that or try the Asus motherboard like the Maximus Hero (maybe beyond your budget) or try the Asus Z97-A. But if you can afford go with Maximus or MSI Gaming 7 instead.

Hi Gagan sarpanch,

Do you know your perfect "Haswell processor" based PC starts with Asus motherboard? Fact is, Asus motherboard's performance is always at the peak when combined with i7. I recommend Asus Z97 board that suits not only gaming but for everything.

Just wondering. Are you from India, OP? If so, your budget is 8,500 rupees with which you can't afford Asus Z97K. You can go with H97 chipset. Also, motherboard does not play any role in enhancing the gaming performance. Processor, Graphics Card and RAM are the only vital components for hardcore gaming. You can even afford cheap motherboard. Make sure it has PCIE x16 slot in which you can insert any graphics card.

Go with Asus H97 Board. You can buy it for 8,500 rupees. You can play all games in ultra settings (provided you own a nice graphics card) no matter what motherboard you have.

Please make up your mind as the budget really matters. It is either $130 or $140. For $140 you can go for this. Just to add most Z97 are great for overclocking and a motherboard wouldn't make a difference in gaming other than the onboard sound or a few extra features.

But for $140 then try this. This is a great one.

Why go with H97 when it is not really designed for overclocking.

Considering OP is from INDIA, he cannot buy Z97 board as tax is pretty higher and budget might come up to 170$. Also, OP has to decide the exact budget for buying a new motherboard.

How about Gigabyte z97x-sli? $100 with all features you can wish, decent oc'ability for the cpu (I doubt he wants to go over 4.9ghz, which it does for me) along with the best price. Comparable asus boards are $40+ extra.

To clarify: there is not 'the best motherboard'. Anything that suits your needs is fine. From a $80 z97 board to a $500 z97 board, the performance difference on same configuration is maybe 2-5%, if even. You should ask yourself what features you want. M.2, Sata Express? Probably. A bios reset button? Probably not. A 12 vrm phase design? Definitely overkill for you.
Which is why my advice goes on the z97x-sli. Has all features you can think of and is the only bosrd that possibly remains in your price range. The only downside is the 4vrm only, but hey, it grts my 4790k to 4.9ghz and I didn't yet attempt 5 (and won't for the next years because I don't even want to pass 1.38v for a one time test)

To pick the best motherboard isn't simple. The bets is already beyond your budget. I just picked an MSI which is great for overclocking too and is was below your budget.

Drops down to one 4x pcie in sli, offers less features and performance than the gigabyte board, possibly overclocks a bit better but is more expensive.
And you miss sata express and can't sli. Both pci lanes are dropping to 4x, while nvidia wants both to be at least 8x.

Tell us what features you want out of these:

M.2
Sata Express
SLI compability (2 gpu's)
Bios reset button
Easy overclocking in uefi (msi is a bit complicated)
Number of usb 3 ports
Or things alike
extreme overclocking (12+ vrm phases, over 5.0ghz, only boards over $250 i know)

Then just choose the board that features what you want for the cheapest price.

Example. the z97x-sli has:

M.2
Sata Express
SLI compability (2x pcie 8x)
NO bios reset button
easy overclocking, just some weird voltage names
6 usb 3 ports
NO super high overclocking

for $110.

the gaming 5/7

M.2
NO Sata Express
NO SLI compability (1x8, 1x4 only)
NO bios reset button
Not as easy overclocking (to me, personally)
4x usb 3
NO super high overclocking

for $140

You won't have wifi on the board, will have to buy a seperate wifi adapter. No idea what audio boost 2 is, most z97 boards, including this one have good sound chips, though. As for killer networking, it yields no practical advantage over the intel chip. If you want it nontheless, look out for the AsRock z97 fatal1ty killer. It's another great board allowing for strong overclocks.

Edit: Audio boost 2 seems to be a MSI thing, may be useful, but basing a decision on that feature would be stupid, if the board is overall worse.

I don't want to be mean, but honestly, we already told you what great boards in your price range (based on the msi board in the opening post) are. Take the advice or not, it's up to you. But we won't magically start recommending those msi boards.
