Hello, Why should i not use a 3pin Molex adapter for my graphics card? My psu doesnt have enough 6 pin connectors. could it damage my gpu?

my system specs are:

MSI z77 Mpower
I5 3570k
8 GB(4x2) DDR3 corair vengence 1600
650w thermaltake litepower psu

thanks in advance guys!

I recommend a good quality power supply from tiers 1, 2a or 2b of http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html.

Yours is from tier 3. A gtx760 only needs a 500W power supply so yours should be OK even if its not real good quality.

You should have 2 x 6+2 pin pcie power connectors that you can use from your power supply per http://www.thermaltake.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00001860

A GTX760 needs 2 x 6pins per http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-760/specifications

So you should be right. Use the two 6+2 pin connectors - just the 6 pin part of each.

That card would push the limit on 1 of those rails 170 watt of the 216 and you would be best suited to use the link I posted above and find yourself a good 500 or 550 watt PSU from tier 1 or 2 especially if you plan on OCing since you do have an unlocked CPU.

The spec says one 12V rail of 44A. So it should be fine. Though, according to RealHardTech, the power supply hasn't been certified and is made by SolyTech (never heard of them) and there's no reviews on it. So I wouldn't bet it's real flash. But it should do till the OP can save up to get something better.

My motherboard has a 6pin power connector as well. "to provide power to the graphics card". is this connection not necessary?
