Hi all! Long time reader, first time poster. I've ran into one heck of an issue on my latest build. :(

For reference, my part list is here.

After getting all of the parts in and ready to go, I noticed that the computer would be stuck in a reboot loop if the video card's power was plugged in. So I just ended up unplugging it and using the integrated graphics to get Windows installed. That went fine. Then I moved to fixing the card.

First, in my infinite wisdom </sarcasm> I had placed the card in the PCIe x8 slot accidentally. I moved it to the appropriate slot and the reboot loop continued to happen. I then tried (again in my infinite wisdom </sarcasm>) to turn off the integrated graphics. Now, of course, nothing wants to work!

I'm stumped at this point. I've never had such a misbehaving graphics card. Can anyone give me any tips to try? I'd definitely appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

The R9 280X demands a minimum of a 600w PSU.

It's possible your rig is drawing slightly more power than the PSU can supply. If at all possible borrow a higher powered PSU and try that with the card.

To rule out hardware failure, in the event you can't carry out the above scenario, try your card in a different rig to make sure it doesn't exhibit the same behaviour.

Thanks for the reply. I've unplugged everything from the power except the essentials; cooling, CPU, video card, and it still ended up in a loop. I'm pretty sure this card can play nice with this PSU since I've heard it on these forums and I'm using the exact same setup (aside from different case and an SSD) as a PCPartPicker build that they featured a few months ago. https://pcpartpicker.com/p/vnqzFT

I'm starting to lean towards a bad card more and more. Not sure...

Hey I bought/built the same thing and have the same problem, how did you fix it?

I finally fixed it. After speaking with XFX support (which really stinks, btw) they said that this card isn't compatible with Secure Boot with Windows 8. Even though it says it's compatible on the box, I just turned off secure boot when I received my replacement card and it worked perfectly. Hope this helps someone from a bit of headache. Thanks everybody!
